CA Ammo Purchases


This document lays out the rule in how we facilitate ammunition purchases and transfers for Californians.
Ammunition purchases is serious business in California, therefore we take this process extremely seriously so we can continue to serve you.
This is a WIP (work in progress) document, rules are subject to change without notice.

Product handling, and delivery

Our ammunition sales service primary serves only California residents, all transactions must be completed with an a purchase of a DROS, and an in-person background check at the time of pickup.
Orders or transfers which does not complete the DROS process will be considered abandoned after 9 days of receipt or purchase of your, no refunds will be made.

Types of DROS (Dealer Record Of Sales / Background check)

All ammunition purchases must be made along with the purchase of a CA DOJ DROS, which its selectable in the Ammunition product category.
Understanding and selecting the right type of DROS for your needs is important. There are three types with different cost, to chose from depending on your situation. There are no refund for DROS checks for any reasons, this is mandated by California law.

- Standard $1 - You may use this eligibility check if your information matches an entry in the Automated Firearms System (AFS) (name, date of birth, current address, and driver license or other government identification) and you do not fall within a class of persons who are prohibited from owning or possessing ammunition.

- Basic $19 - You may use this eligibility check if you do not have a current Certificate of Eligibility, if you do not have a current record in the AFS, or if you do not have a record at all in the AFS. The Department will determine your eligibility based on a comprehensive review of its records (similar to a firearm eligibility check).
This option will take a number of days to complete. We will notify you your eligibility status, then you may return to complete the transaction.

- COE $1 - You may use this eligibility check if you have a current Certificate of Eligibility.

Required document for a DROS.

Ammunition orders with must be made with a credit card matching and all information of your valid California Real ID.
Name and address must match before we move forward with the DROS process, and the release of your purchased ammunition. Ie, A person cannot use their credit card to make a purchase for another person who is doing the DROS.
In addition to a California Real ID such as Driver's License, State ID, you must have one the following documents with you:

* Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or passport card.
* Certified copy of U.S. birth certificate.
* Certification of Birth Abroad (FS-545), Certification of Report of Birth (DS-1350) or Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America (FS-240), issued by the U.S. Department of State.
* Valid, unexpired foreign passport with valid U.S. immigrant visa and approved Record of Arrival/ Departure (I-94) form.
* Certified copy of birth certificate from a U.S. Territory.
* Certificate of Naturalization or U.S. Citizenship.
* Valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card.

If your name, as it appears on the California driver license or identification card that has “FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY” on the front, differs from the name on the document(s) above, you must present one of the following certified documents:

* An adoption document that contains your legal name as a result of the adoption.
* A name change document that contains your legal name both before and, as a result of, the name change.
* A marriage certificate.
* A dissolution of marriage document that contains your legal name as a result of the court action.
* A certificate, declaration or registration document verifying the formation of a domestic partnership.
* A dissolution of domestic partnership document that contains your legal name as a result of the court action.

What or who not to bring for your DROS.

* Anyone but else but yourself. For security reasons, you must be the only person present, and nobody else. That includes family members, and significant others, friends, helpers, etc.
* Recording or photography devices. Keep your phone in your pocket or purse. Recording or photography is not allowed.

Booking your appointments for Pickup, Transfers, and physical DROS

Ammunition picked up is through appointment only which will be arranged via email/phone/text.
We will arrange an appointment up to two business days after we receiving the ammunition.
The appointment date will be made within a week of us receiving the ammunition. (7 days)

After appointment is made and if the customer decides to cancel / reschedule there will be charged a $10 fee per day until the new appointment is arranged up to 20 days/$200. If the storage fee is not paid before rescheduled pick up it will be considered abandoned and forfeited. After 20 days / second appointment attempt not made the ammunition will be considered abandoned and will be forfeited.

At time of the appointment please bring the appropriate documentations required as stated. If you do not possess all of the appropriate documentation you will have until the end of the day to bring it before proceeding with the transfer process. If you cannot bring the appropriate documentation within that days’ operating time the appointment will be rescheduled and the daily storage fee will be charged.
Once again: DO NOT BRING ANY OTHER PARTY WITH YOU BE IT FAMILY/FRIENDS/PETS FOR YOUR SAFETY

Out of state / vendor transfers, Interpersonal transfers, Storage fees and Limitations.

*Failure to complete all of these requirements, we will consider your packages sent to us as gifts to SL Gears.*

To Perform a vendor/out of state transfer is similar to a normal ammunition purchase as stated above with the following additional considerations:

* Add CA Ammunition DROS from ammunition category along with the appropriate amount of Storage Weight Fee in 10lbs increments)

Standard Dros ($1)+ weight storage fee ($5 per 10lbs)
Basic Dros ($19)+ weight storage fee ($5 per 10lbs)
COE Dros ($1)+ weight storage fee ($5 per 10lbs)

In comments section during the checkout, provide the following information:
* Vendor name and address that we are expecting your shipment from.
* Tracking information
* Make, model/caliber and quantity information in both counts and weight.
* Plus any additional information will always make your transaction smoother.
* Invoice included in the ammunition shipment must match the name of the person who will be completing the DROS.

We will follow up via emails for a forwarded copy of sale receipt, and arranges for an appointment.

When we receiving your ammunition order from the vendor we will weight the entire shipment to validate the declared weight vs actual weight. Excess weight will be changed at the rate of $10 per addition 10bs increments) at the time of pickup
Non ammunition items it will go towards the weight fee in the the increment of 10bs service fees.
We will open your shipment to confirm its content, prohibited items will be confiscated.

Storage Weight Fee

We charge $5 per 10 pounds of ammunition for a maximum of $50/100 pounds per customer order. (Price will be rounded off to the next 10 pounds if weight is a bit over.) Storage fee will be charged at time of the pickup
